Crocker Amazon is for everyone. Let’s keep it open, accessible and real.
San Francisco Recreation and Park Department is planning to convert Crocker Amazon to a suburban-style baseball complex. Trees will be cut down and the lawns will be replaced with fake, toxic plastic grass, surrounded by metal fencing and blaring night lighting with limited access for the neighbors.
Let's keep it real.
Our vision is a natural setting for picnickers, Tai Chi, walkers, music, cricket, football, baseball, soccer, movie nights, birdwatching and kickball games. In other words a park for everyone — all ages and abilities.
Our demands are:
1) start over with community input from the beginning
2) keep public lands in public hands — no to any privatizing
3) fund real investment in community needs
Our Letter to Protect Crocker Amazon Park under CEQA
The California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) exists because we deserve to know what a project will actually do to our air, water, health, and quality of life before the trees and grass come out and the plastic goes in.
Keep Crocker Real submitted these formal public comments to the Planning Commission asking them to recognize Crocker Amazon Park is eligible for protection under CEQA and require a full Environmental Impact Report for the Baseball and Softball Renovation Project. A thorough Environmental Impact Report (EIR) will document this project's harms to our health and the environment. The Recreation & Parks Commission, the Planning Department, the Board of Supervisors and the Mayor may still approve the demolition of Crocker Amazon Park followed by the installation of a plastic-based baseball complex, but everyone's letters to decision-makers are creating a paper trail in case this fight ends up in court.
